In ancient Israel
the holy men
collected tears
in a special cup,
every time they laughed,
mostly when they cried.
As life struck their hearts
and the tears flowed,
they would catch them
in their holy cup
until it runneth over
and in those hard times
with some merriment
the cup runneth over
so that the blessings from God
were not why they said:
My cup runneth over
but because
they had human hearts full
of sorrow and compassion
and sometimes great joy,
an offering,
blessings for who they were
and not for what they expected
and only some,
hopefully very few,
had neither a cup
nor many blessings.
Amen.
